The weather has turned cold and damp
a chilly wind rattles the leafless trees
eying dark skies through their branches
feeling her life go with Summer's breeze.
Fall colors roving majestic mountains
smoky with the scent of burning leaves
vehicles move slowly along the roadways
none take notice of the shadow that grieves.
She felt something inside her heart melt
deep in the darkest place only she knew
she then eyed the steep embankment
wondering "would you care,would you?"
Looking at the gaping holes of her life
where love's door swung free of rust
those plans and dreams that grew aplenty
have all blown away like dandelion dust.
Glancing up and down the darkened street
then once more over her trembling shoulder
she whispered "You'll be the death of me"
intentionally slipping from the wet boulder.
